Tesco expects the supply chain issues that reportedly left it and many other British retailers short of Danone brand yogurt to be resolved by next week.

Speaking with DairyReporter.com earlier today, a spokesperson for the retailer said that while its UK stores still have Danone brand yogurt products in stock, there has been an issue with availability.

Danone markets a wide range of yogurt brands in the UK, including Danio, Actimel, Activia, Oykos, and Shape.

Tesco expects the issue to be resolved, and operations back to normal, by next week.

Our sister site, The Grocer, reported earlier this week that a number of British retailers had been left short of Danone brand yogurt as a result of "a major disruption" to the supply chain - caused by the transfer of the products to a new distribution centre in Hertfordshire operated by dairy processor, Arla Foods UK.

Arla, which provides third-party warehouse storage in the UK for Danone yogurt brands, confirmed that a “systems interface error” occurred at the centre. This affected the recording of product intake numbers, and led to the inaccurate tracking of the products.

The company was unable to give a deadline for resolution of the issue when pressed by DairyReporter.com, but said: “…we are working tirelessly to resume normal deliveries and are making good progress."

In its report, The Grocer added that the issue had affected distribution to all of Danone's UK customers, and that Arla was forced to ration the Danone brand yogurt products it had available.

DairyReporter.com also approached leading British retailers, Sainsbury’s, Asda and the Co-operative regarding the reported shortage.

Sainsbury’s declined to comment, stating only that it does not “discuss supplier relations.”

No response was received from Asda or the Co-operative prior to publication.
