Fonterra has revealed that a proposal to merge its Chilean subsidiary, Soprole, with the fresh dairy operations of Nestle Chile has been scrapped.

According to Fonterra, the parent companies decided that the conditions to continue with the merger application were not appropriate. There are no plans to present a new application to the Chilean authorities.

Fonterra CEO Andrew Ferrier said the focus for Soprole would now be on expansion of its consumer business. “Soprole already has a very strong position in the Chile market and has been posting strong growth in recent years. The team is now focused on building on that strong foundation.”
