The Financial Times has reported that Bright Food of China has emerged as the biggest bidder in the auction to buy 50 per cent of the Yoplait yoghurt brand.

Put up for sale by private equity firm PAI, the 50 per cent stake in France-based Yoplait has attracted interest from some of the biggest companies in the dairy industry. General Mills, Groupe Lactalis and Nestle are all in the running.

Referencing people familiar with the deal, the Financial Times said Chinese dairy company Bright Food has put in the highest bid. The financial newspaper said the revelation does not make Bright Food a guaranteed winner as the structure of the bidder and the view of the French government are likely to be considered alongside the cash on the table.
