Parmalat’s claim for damages against Citigroup, regarding an alleged breach of duty of trust, has been rejected by the Superior Court of Bergen County, New Jersey, United States.

The claim concerns the Italian food group’s claim that Citigroup aided and abetted a breach of fiduciary duty in connection with alleged looting that occurred at Parmalat before December 2003.

The jury awarded Citibank about US$364m (€289M) in connection with counterclaims that it had asserted against Parmalat, says the company.

Following previous rulings of the US Bankruptcy Court, the award must now be reviewed by its counterpart in Parma, Italy.

Citigroup was unavailable for comment.
