Campina, the international dairy group, is to repackage two of its most popular beverages in PET bottles. The container is supplied by the packaging group Amcor, and the move highlights the potential in targeting 'on-the-move' consumers.

The company claims that the new bottle size meets the increasing consumer demand for small size convenience packs. In particular, the new pack enables the company to capitalise on the growing 'on-the move' or 'out-of-home' market, says the company.

Campina's Stassano Gastronomie extra light cream and Smoothie drinks will be the first to benefit from the new pack design.

The company said that the bottle has an attractive sleeve which gives it strong shelf presence and a special indent in the shoulder that provides a measure for 20cl and, for the fresh cream, combines with marks on the side of the label that the company claims "maximises user convenience".

"Campina Smoothie will be targeted at consumers who need to eat and drink on the move and will be sold alongside snacks and sandwiches through service stations and similar outlets", the company said.

Amcor PET Packaging and Campina's working relationship began in 1999 when the packaging firm designed a range of containers for the Dutch company's leading brands.

"The success of Campina's PET bottles demonstrate consumer acceptance of this packaging format and the opportunities for brand development that it offers", said Phil Gunning, Amcor's vice president of sales and marketing.

"The new 250ml size is further evidence of the company taking the initiative in a growing market sector", he added.
