A UK education initiative aimed at farmers and food companies aims to give a better understanding of EU farming policy, with 24 farmers visiting Brussels last month.

Travel to Learn is a series of training events arranged by a food supply chain development programme, Farexchange, for stakeholders in the UK dairy sector to see best practice in the UK and Europe.

Whitby based farmer Tom Cummins said the programme enabled him to get an insight into “the amount of work that is involved in trying to formulate an industry position on issues as diverse as individual electronic identification of sheep to food labelling and supermarket contracts."

Farexchange is operationally led by the English Farming and Food Partnerships (EFFP), which aims to help companies improve competitiveness and efficiency through collaborative supply chains from farm to fork.
