FOSS claims new NIR dairy analyser offers profit and sustainability

By Ben Bouckley , 04-Apr-2012

At Anuga Food Tec 2012 FOSS launched its new near infrared dairy analyser, and in this exclusive video shot at the show, dairy market manager Dorthe Bisgård Oldrup told DairyReporter.com that it broke new ground in terms of analysing milk powder to cut energy consumption and achieve other cost savings.

Explaining why dairy processors should buy into near infrared (NIR) analysis, she said that FOSS's new machine - the NIRS DS2500 - could provide accurate analysis results for a range of parameters such as protein, moisture, fat, ash and colour in milk powder in under a minute.

Bisgård Oldrup (pictured) explained that the machine gives quality controllers the information they need to tighten-up the powder process. For instance, more efficient drying can lead to impressive electricity savings.

According to FOSS, careful monitoring of moisture content in powder as it goes into drying can typically save €24,000 at a 10,000 tonne/year production site.
