Chobani will be introducing its Greek-style yogurt products and its Flip line to Mexico, marking the first time the company will distribute outside the US.

US-based Greek yogurt company Chobani has expanded its operations into Mexico with the launch of two of its yogurt lines to 33 cities in the country in an effort to extend its market reach beyond the US.

The launch marks the first time that Chobani yogurt products will be exported from the US to another market, the company said.

The company is rolling out its flagship Chobani Greek yogurt line, which contains 11 to 15 grams of protein per 5.3-ounce serving, and will be available in strawberry, blueberry, peach, mango, natural and coco flavors.

The company is also introducing Chobani Flip, a combination of Chobani Greek yogurt and "dry and natural ingredients" in a separate container. Varieties include almond coco loco, key lime crumble, salted caramel crunch, and tropical escape.

Chobani's products will be available through nine retail chain stores: Comercial Mexicana, Costco, City Club, City Market, Fresko, HEB, La Comer, Soriana, Superama, and Wal-Mart.

Updating Mexico’s yogurt aisle

Chobani said it saw Mexico as the next market poised for a yogurt boom, especially with a general shift to healthier food choices such as Greek yogurt.

Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya said that there is still a lot of growth potential for Greek yogurt available in Mexico. Other companies like Danone, Yoplait, and LALA manufacture Greek yogurt in Mexico.

“This is something we’ve wanted to do for the longest time, and it came down to finding the right partners to do it. The yogurt aisle in Mexico reminds me of what I saw in the United States before we started making Chobani,” said Ulukaya.

As part of its founding mission, a portion of all Chobani sold in Mexico will be donated to charitable causes.
