The new software, TruckStop, is supplied by Kingswood Mechanics, a UK company that specialises in geographic analysis which helps companies improve their management of routing and scheduling.

Previously Robert Wiseman's milk tankers that delivered from the farms to the company's Manchester factory had to carry out two trips daily, but with the use of this new systemone trip can be carried out.

The system calculates aspects of the journey that delivery vehicles will take. Users have access to a road network map of the UK. The product indicates road speeds of the predicted routes and determine a quick way to the delivery points.

TruckStop is also supplied to the co-operative First Milk. Kingswood Mechanics has said that it is to release a new version of the software in March.

"We are finding that transport users are increasingly using map-based tools for strategic analysis," said Mary Short, the company's managing director. The company says that the software is becoming increasingly popular within the dairy industry.
