The 2006 European Union nutrition and health claims process has pressed on the attention of the European food and ingredients industries for a few years now and so there has been some relief that the verdicts are finally coming in.
But EFSA is applying tough standards and industry has been dealt some unexpected blows in the form of negative opinions.
With billions of euros in sales at stake it is no wonder companies have been digging deep into their scientific and marketing pockets to meet the tough claims validation standards.
