Tetra Pak Cheese and Powder Systems (CPS) says that it has worked with an unnamed European supplier of private label brand yoghurts to customize a means of producing large amounts of the product on an hourly basis, while maintaining a uniform texture and viscosity during storage.
The processor modified five of the yoghurt maker’s storage vessels with exclusively designed gate agitators that it says can fold yoghurt to ensure a homogeneous structure, while at the same time not breaking downs fats in the finished product.
Agitator development
Tetra Pak CPS claims manufacturers may find a number of benefits from similar modifications, particularly in relation to plant downtime and product quality.
In working with the yoghurt manufacturer, the group says that it developed and commissioned the new system within the space of two months.
“[We were] able to design and build customised agitators that could be retrofitted into the vessels in sections with little disruption to production, leading to minimal downtime and a significant cost saving when compared to new vessels,” Tetra Pak stated.
Tetra Pak CPS
Tetra Pak CPS was formed earlier in 2007 to focus specifically on processing and packaging technologies for the dairy industry, following the acquisition of UK-based company, Carlisle Process Systems.
The division will focus on internal research and development programs to provide manufacturers with specialized processing technology.
