This week is National Salt Awareness Week in the UK and in the run-up to that event Dairy UK set out to establish how cheese manufacturers are progressing towards salt targets set up last year between the dairy industry and the Food Standards Agency.
More detailed data is being gathered this month but Dairy UK said feedback from members has so far been positive. According to the trade body, this means that British cheeses are delivering at least 350 tonnes less salt to the nation’s diets this year than they did in 2007.
