Cheese recalled due to metal contamination
Asda, The Co-Operative and Morrisons have removed varieties of mild cheddar and red Leicester cheese because small pieces of metal may be in the products.
The supermarkets withdrew the affected products from sale on 11 Tuesday December 2012 and no other products from these supermarkets are known to be affected.
It is unclear how the pieces of metal were found in the product or what is the source of the contamination.
An Asda spokeswoman told FoodQualityNews.com: "We take issues of customer safety extremely seriously which is why as a precautionary measure, we have withdrawn these cheese products. We have launched a full investigation with the supplier to find out what has happened.”
