The Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association has been awarded $13,400 funding by the American Sheep and Goat Center towards the establishment of the first dairy goat research herd in the Upper Midwest USA, geared towards preserving the health of the state’s goat herds.

The association was one of nine recipients of funding across the US, and the project will include a comprehensive feasibility study for public and private funding to establish the herd and facility in Wisconsin.

Goat cheese processor Montchevre-Betin has also donated $5460 towards the cause, and The University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture have also pledged nearly $5,000 in in-kind staff support.
