Hygiena, a US-based company providing microbial detection, monitoring and identification, has launched the ZymoSnap ALP, an alkaline phosphatase (ALP) testing system designed to verify pasteurization efficiency in short-shelf-life dairy products in five minutes.

Hygiena’s ZymoSnap ALP has been developed to offer reliable, definitive and repeatable results, including at low levels (25-100 mU/L), below the globally-recognized regulatory level of 350 mU/L.

The company said the system can be used without specialist knowledge or testing facilities, and added the system not only saves time but also cost when compared with conventional ALP testing methods.

The test device is also 100% recyclable.

Dr Martin Easter, chief scientific officer at Hygiena said manufacturers of dairy products are under constant pressure to demonstrate compliance with international safety and quality requirements.

“That’s why they need to regularly monitor and verify the efficiency of their pasteurization process,” Easter said.

ZymoSnap ALP is compatible with Hygiena’s EnSURE monitoring system, a luminometer used to detect bacteria from the Enterobacteriaceae family, which includes E. coli.
