Lidl has issued a second warning to German customers not to eat two Prolactal cheese products, after health authorities confirmed a link earlier this week to six deaths from food poisoning.

Austrian and German health authorities traced six listeria deaths to contaminated acid curd cheese made by Prolactal. Lidl pulled the cheeses off its shelves on 23 January when suspicions of a link were first aroused.

The supermarket chain has now reiterated its warning to avoid eating two suspect Reinhardshof-branded cheeses. Prolactal has said its management is “deeply shocked” by the listeria cases and has stopped production at its Hartberg site in Styria pending a full investigation.
