Müller Wiseman Dairies is recalling a batch of its 300ml pasteurised Double Cream due to Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected batch is 532 pots distributed around Scotland and the North of England into convenience retailers and directly to consumers via doorstep delivery.

Supermarkets Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Iceland all issued recalls for cream supplied to them by Müller Wiseman.

Investigation under way

Müller Wiseman Dairies 300ml pasteurised Double Cream has a best before date of 2 September and was produced at a site in Scotland.

“This is an isolated incident, and an extensive investigation by Müller Wiseman Dairies’ Quality Team is under way to understand the cause and source. The batch was produced at a small dairy in East Kilbride which produces cream products,”​ it said in a statement.

“No other Müller Wiseman Dairies products produced at the site are known to be affected.”

Sainsbury's recalled SO Organic British Double Cream because Listeria monocytogenes was found in some pots.

The 300ml pot of cream has a best before date of 2 September 2015 and batch code 01716184.

The supermarket said routine testing detected a low level of the pathogen in the product.

“As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought this product not to consume or use it, and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.

“Listeria monocytogenes can cause food poisoning, especially in vulnerable groups and expectant mothers. If you have eaten this product and need further advice, please contact your health care professional.

“No other products or date codes are affected by this issue, and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”

Iceland recalled Double Cream because of the problem.

Iceland Double Cream 284ml (10oz) with a use by of 2 September 2015 is affected.

Aldi recalled McCallums Scottish Double Cream due to the findings.

The affected cream has best before date 2 September 2015 and product code 43090.

“We are recalling this product from sale as our supplier, Muller-Wiseman, has advised us that low levels of Listeria have been detected in this batch,” ​said Aldi.

“If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Customers are asked to return it to the nearest store, where a full refund will be given.”

Müller Wiseman Dairies is a fresh milk, cream and butter business with a network of dairies and depots servicing customers throughout the country. 

The business recently commenced butter-making, opening a facility in Shropshire with the capacity to produce up to 45,000 tonnes of salted, unsalted and lactic butter each year. 

Müller UK & Ireland buys milk from more than 1,200 British dairy farmers.
