A portable refrigerator thermometer allows processors to record temperatures more accurately and easily, improving the traceability of products, its manufacturer claims.

Control Company claims its Econo Traceable refrigerator thermometer is suitable to monitor temperatures in store rooms, labs, hoods and cabinets.

Tougher regulations are forcing food processors to implement more stringent tracing of their products. This includes recording temperatures the products are exposed to throughout the supply chain.

Control Company's thermometer has a switchable temperature range of between -9.9C to 55C and 14.2F to 131F, which is displayed to one tenth of a degree on the LCD screen, the manufacturer said.

Temperature accuracy is within one degree between 0 and 25C and within 1.5C outside that range, the company claims. The Ultra model is accurate to within 0.5C.

The display is updated every 30 seconds, which allows the temperature to be recorded without any effect from the opening of a fridge or chilled cabinet door.

The Econo measures 2.5 x 6.4 x 1 cm (1 x 2 x 0.4 inches) and weighs 14 grams (0.5 oz). It can be attached to most surfaces as it comes supplied with a suction cup on the back and Velcro attachments.

Each thermometer has an individually serial-numbered traceable certificate,

provided by Control Company's ISO 17025 calibration laboratory.

Thermometers also come supplied with a 1.5-volt silver-oxide battery.

US-based Control Company designs, manufacturers, and sells equipment and scientific instruments for plants and laboratories in the industrial, biomedical and other industries.
