Avery Dennison has added a food-approved top coated product, PP60 top cavitated white film, to its labelling film portfolio.

The film comes with a S2045N hot melt adhesive, which will join the company's existing TC7007 top coat along with a food-approved topcoat in its standard film range.

Legislation is highly regulated

Rob Groen in 't Wout, senior product manager filmic label materials Europe, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials, a Netherlands-based company, told FoodProductionDaily.com it continues to evolve its labelling portfolio.

The legislation on food safety is highly regulated and the regulations on materials that come into contact with food, either direct or indirect are continuously changing and being amended,” he said.

Our goal is to make food labelling choices simple and productive given the complex legislations and changing industry landscape.”

He said with the launch of the top coat, it can meet higher performance requirements for applications in chilled conditions, as well be in direct contact with the food while complying with EC regulations.

The top coat is in addition to our food labelling portfolio and provides food producers and converters with additional options in terms of look and performance characteristics,” added 't Wout.

They will be able to select from the portfolio which labelling meets their needs. For example, the TC7007 top coat has primarily been used on the outside of plastic films while the top coat allows for both direct and indirect contact.”

The product complies with Article 3.1.a of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004. It also deals with application challenges like labelling cold and moist surfaces traditionally found in chilled products such as dairy, cheese, and meats.

The product's S2045N hot melt adhesive is designed to offer good tack and adhesion on different types of surfaces.
