UK freezing and chilling systems manufacturer, Starfrost, has secured a contract to supply Thailand’s leading ice cream manufacturer, Minor Dairy, with a custom-designed “hardening system” for large containers of the frozen product.

Suffolk-based Starfrost announced earlier this week that it is set to export one of its double drum spiral freezers to Minor Dairy’s processing facility near Bangkok.

According to Starfrost, Minor - which manufactures a variety of ice cream products for food service outlets and owns Thailand’s largest ice cream brand, Swensen’s – required an in-line freezing system capable of achieving the long retention time needed to harden large containers of ice cream.

“Minor Dairy required an efficient, high capacity hardening system for large containers of ice cream,” said Starfrost MD, Neil Winney.

“By custom designing a double drum helix spiral hardener for Minor Dairy, Starfrost was able to supply a compact and highly efficient mechanical freezing system. Cold air is circulated across the spiral belt in a unique flow pattern across all product surfaces. This is extremely efficient in extracting heat as rapidly as possible, without subjecting the product to excessive air speeds.”

The deal is the latest secured by Starfrost in Thailand in conjunction with a local agent.

The company recently supplied freezing and chilling systems to Thailand-based tropical fruit and poultry processors.
