Nestlé has inaugurated a new MILO factory in Hung Yen, Vietnam.

Executive vice president in charge of zone Asia Oceania Africa, Wan Ling Martello, and Nestlé Vietnam’s managing director Ganesan Ampalavanar officially opened the new facility, located in the Thang Long II Industrial Zone of Hung Yen.

The plant has been built to create more than 200 new jobs and many more indirect jobs in Hung Yen province. The company said the factory will enable the development and creation of new nutritional beverages for Vietnamese consumers.

The site uses environmentally-friendly refrigerants in the cooling system along with heat and energy recovery systems, and sends zero waste to landfill.

Nestlé said the facility is part of the company’s 2030 ambition to strive for zero impact in its operations, and the opening of the plant also assists with this by creating products closer to market.

“I am proud of the important new investments we are making in Vietnam,” Wan Ling Martello said.

“It demonstrates Nestlé’s commitment to emerging markets in general, and to Vietnam in particular, especially in the context of a volatile economy.

“Nestlé Vietnam has great performance in the last few years, which is thanks to an ever-expanding consumer market and a favorable business environment.”

The growth of MILO

MILO was launched in Australia in the 1930s, and today is available globally.

Nestlé MILO has been present in the Vietnamese market for more than 17 years in the beverage sector.  It is intended for children from six to 12 years of age, and combines barley, cocoa and milk.

Originally a powder, the brand has expanded to include ready-to-drink variants, as well as snack bars.

Nestlé operates six factories with more than 2,000 employees in Vietnam. To date, Nestlé’s total investment in Vietnam is $520m.
