UK agritech company IceRobotics has received £5,000 ($6,545) in support as part of the China-Britain Business Council’s (CBBC) ‘Ready for China’ campaign to help more UK companies enter the China market.

IceRobotics develops and provides data collection and analysis products for monitoring dairy cow behavior.

Its products are used by academic institutions and dairy farmers internationally to gain insights into livestock productivity, health and welfare.

CBBC will assist IceRobotics to identify potential partners and look at regulatory issues.

‘Worth the effort’

Robert Boyce, director and co-founder of IceRobotics, said China presents a huge opportunity, but also many complexities and restrictions that are very different from other international markets.

James Brodie, Scotland director at CBBC, said agritech was identified as a key priority sector by the Chinese government in its 13th five-year plan.

He added IceRobotics’ technology has ‘massive latent demand.’

“The challenges are not insignificant, but the potential appeal for their solution is such that it more than warrants the effort in exploring how to overcome them,” Brodie said.

Ready for China

More than 600 UK companies have completed the ‘Ready for China’ Diagnostic tool – with CBBC offering practical advice and relevant materials on how to take advantage of the opportunities that the China market presents.

Founded in 2002, and based in Edinburgh, Scotland, IceRobotics develops specialist behavior monitoring tools for livestock.

The company also developed the CowAlert system for commercial dairy farmers; a cloud-based Internet-of-Things platform providing alerts and insights into fertility, health and welfare to promote high levels of herd health and welfare combined with increased competitiveness and sustainability.
