Land O'Lakes has acquired goat milk producer Vermont Creamery for an undisclosed sum.

Vermont Creamery has announced it will become an independently-operated subsidiary of Minnesota-based Land O'Lakes.

It will continue to produce its goat cheeses, cultured butter and dairy products at the creamery in Websterville, Vermont.

Vermont Creamery co-founder Allison Hooper said as the company experiences ‘unprecedented growth,’ it needed a partner to bring resources and expertise for the company to grow and reach its potential.

Chris Policinski, Land O'Lakes president and CEO, said the two companies share a value-added, branded approach to marketing products, a respect for customers and deeply rooted rural values.

Goat dairy not included in sale

Land O'Lakes has been in operation for more than 95 years. Widely known for its butter brand, it also includes Purina Animal Nutrition and WinField United.

Hooper and Vermont Creamery co-founder Bob Reese will serve as advisors and brand ambassadors for the business. President Adeline Druart and the leadership team will remain in place as will all employees of the business.

Vermont Creamery’s Ayers Brook Goat Dairy, the US’ first demonstration goat dairy, is not included in the transaction. The Hooper family will retain ownership of the farm, which will continue to serve as a supplier to the creamery.

The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
