Xantium Dairies Zambia has been awarded land to invest in a dairy facility.

During a special cabinet meeting at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, the Zambian government announced the allocation of 5,000ha (12,355 acres) of land to Xantium.

The land is in the Luswishi Farm Block in Lufwanyama District, approximately 400km northwest of the capital, Lusaka, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Xantium Dairies will invest a total of $18.9m over five years in a dairy farm with 11,000 dairy cattle and a UHT milk processing plant. The company will create 700 jobs and will operate an out grower scheme of not less than 250 smallholder farmers.

At the government meeting, a total of 15,000 hectares of land was allocated to three prospective investors, including the dairy project.
