Organic co-op splashes omega-3 milk

Twenty-three-year-old North American organic cooperation, Organic Valley Family of Farms, has launched an omega-3 milk containing 50mg of fish oil-sourced DHA and EPA per serving.

In a release about Go Fish Oil! Organic Valley highlighted the ability of the milk to deliver 160mg of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in three servings and highlighted brain health, vision, cardiovascular and childhood growth and development benefits.

The fish oils are supplied by Ocean Nutrition Canada, which Organic Valley said met its environmental standards in the products that retail for $4.49 for a half gallon and $6.99 for a whole gallon.

"When researchers polled consumers on what nutrients they feel are lacking in their diets, the top response was Omega-3s," said Eric Newman, vice president of sales for Organic Valley.

“According to research we've conducted, 65 percent of consumers say they would buy omega-3 milk.”

The best-selling omega-3 milk in the world is made by Spanish dairy, Puleva, which sells volumes worth about $150m per year for its UHT version in Spain.
