Japanese Industrial gas producer Air Water Inc. has agreed to buy a Hokkaido-based ham and sausage factory, currently part of the Snow Brand Foods Co. The factory was embroiled in a beef-labelling scandal that concerned one of its subsidiaries.

Speaking at a news conference, Air Water Vice Chairman Masahiro Toyoda said the company the factory's 90-strong workforce should resume production within the next six months, possibly as soon as June. Snow Brand Foods admitted in January it disguised imported beef as domestic product to trim its inventory and claim government mad-cow disease subsidies. This resulted in public anger, forcing parent Snow Brand Milk Products to pull the plug on its subsidiary.
