Sensient has acquired compatriot group Cardre for an undisclosed
sum, a deal which it claims will allow it to develop its business
in the cosmetics sector.

Sensient Technologies, the colours, flavours and fragrances producer, has acquired the New Jersey-based comapny Cardre, a producer of speciality ingredients for cosmetics and other consumer products.

Sensient did not disclose how much it had paid for the business, but did confirm that it had revenues of around $10 million (€10.1m) last year.

Kenneth Manning, chairman, president and CEO of Sensient, said: "We are extremely pleased to have obtained this new technology, which will enable us to greatly expand our product offering in cosmetic colour systems.

"Cardre will also allow Sensient to realise synergies with our existing cosmetic colour business, and support our efforts to grow our market share in the very strategic cosmetic colour market."

Cardre primarily manufactures surface treated pigments used in specialised cosmetic applications. These ingredients act as a colourant and improve the functionality of cosmetic products. Cardre also manufactures untreated pigments and ingredients for sunscreen products.

For its part, Sensient manufactures a full range of colour and flavour products for the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and specialised printing industries.
