Custom-designed thermoformed tubs from RPC Bebo Plastik have played a key role in the recent development of a new range of children's spreads from leading German dairy manufacturer Frischli Milchwerke.

Frischli's Leckermäulchen brand is one of the most famous in the former East Germany and has quickly established itself throughout the unified country. The new product, Brotaufstrich, is a spread for breads aimed at children and families.

The company claims that the product offers a healthy and tasty alternative to more traditional spreads. The recipe is based on curd cheese and comes in two flavours - vanilla and strawberry.

Frischli Milchwerke felt that packaging was vitally important in the successful launch of the product. The company wanted the Leckermäulchen brand to attract attention on the shelf and to convey the right messages.

The firm also wanted the product to be convenient and easy to use. RPC Bebo Plastik and Frischli's marketing department therefore worked closely in the development process.

The resulting 125g tub and lid are thermoformed in special polypropylene that incorporates a light barrier to maximise shelf life for the product. Pre-printed lids enable the entire surface, including the rim, to be covered with a photo-realistic finish. Colourful labels are applied to two sides of the pack after moulding.

This outer design ensures that the pack is attractive from all angles. In addition the tub is lightweight and easy to handle, and is secured with Tamper Evident sealing.

"This is a major development and we are delighted with the input we have received from RPC Bebo," said Frischli's marketing manager Curd Kießler. "The packs are eye-catching and practical, both essential to the success of the product."
