Germany's largest privately owned dairy company Müller-Milch has warned that it might transfer its headquarters from Aretsried in Bavaria, Germany, to Switzerland for tax reasons.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reports that the group's founder and owner, Theo Müller, is already set to move to Switzerland in order to avoid paying millions of euros in tax to transfer his fortune to his children.

Müller has been highly critical of Germany's death duties. He said that he would move back to Germany immediately if the German government decided to change the rules.

The Müller Group is one of Europe's most important dairy groups. It reported a turnover of €1.7 billion in 2002 and is on target to make €1.9 billion this year.

The company employs more than 4,400 staff in Germany, Italy and the UK.
