A new plastic modular belt could help reduce product
loss in plants, its manufacturer claims.

Switzerland-based Habasit said the belt can be used for extremely tight transfers and allows small products to be moved from one belt to another. The design cuts down on damage or losses, the company said. Habasit is targeting the belt at manufacturers of baked goods and fruit products. The conveyer belt was unveiled at the opening this week of the company's new test centre, based at headquarters in Reinach, Switzerland. Processors can use the centre to test their particular products on Habasit's range of belts, before buying. "The new Habasit testing facilities ensure that customers' production lines can be put into operation more quickly and operate more reliably," the company stated. The centre highlights the various benefits of using the company's belts, and showcases designs that reduce water consumption, and improve worker safety. Hasbasit acquired American company KVP in October 2006, and from August 2007 will handle all sales and services for KVP's modular belts in Europe and Asia. Habasit said it increased turnover in 2006 by 14 per cent to €442m and investment rose by 304 per cent to €96.5m.
