The sale follows a number of company reshuffles over the past year, as the Swedish dairy group aims to focus on its core brands and to expand operations in emerging markets. Preben Fogtmann, Koff chairman, said that company management decided to acquire the brand as Crispy Food's range of breakfast cereals and "top cups" for yoghurts fit in with Koff's involvement in breakfast products. "With this acquisition we will be able to offer existing and new customers a wider range of products, and we will strengthen our product development competences," he said. Crispy Food International is located in Gørlev, Denmark, and has an annual turnover of about DKK65m (€8.7m), while Koff is a holding company with an annual turnover of DKK 1bn (€130m). Arla Foods is currently one of the biggest dairy companies in Europe, following the merger between the Danish MD Foods and the Swedish Arla in 2000, and it exports its butter, cheese and milk products all over the world. According to the company website, the UK is currently the group's largest market, accounting for 33 per cent of the total turnover. Sweden carries 22 per cent of the market, Denmark, 19 per cent, and other European markets, 13 per cent. Arla Foods has also been aiming to break into emerging markets in Asia, Eastern Europe and South America over the past few years. The company recently expanded its presence in China, and in October it will enter the Vietnamese market to launch its Milex brand of powdered milk products. In April, Arla Foods entered into a joint venture with the Russian distribution partner Artis, after particularly good sales of its products in St Petersburg.
