A new electro-chemical oxygen sensor allows beverage manufacturers
to accurately measure gas levels during production, while reducing
downtime needed for maintenance, its manufacturer claims.

Hach Ultra says that the development of the Orbisphere A1100, capable for use in either process monitoring or laboratory analysis, can reduce sensor cleaning and maintenance time to less than three minutes. Accurately measuring oxygen during production is critical for taste and shelf life, with the latest development particularly suited for high output manufacturing where the downtime required for cleaning can prove costly. Rapid sensor refurbishment is made possible due to the inclusion of the group's patented recharge cartridge, which the company claims helps ensure that no technical experience or additional chemicals are needed for cleaning. Once maintenance has been completed, the technology's design makes use of a smart chip, which stores calibration parameters that once set in a laboratory, can allow the sensor to be plugged back into a production line, according to Hach Ultra. The sensor is made from a robust stainless steel material, designed to protect the device during extremely demanding applications, including high pressure cleaning in place (CIP) of up to 100 bar, says the manufacturer. Hach Ultra claims that the latest development in its Orbisphere sensor range can ensure an accurate and swift detection of any changes in oxygen during processing.
