#3 Dairy Farmers of America (DFA)
US cooperative Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) ranked third among the top US dairy industry spenders with investments totaling $1,122,000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
DFA director of media relations and public affairs, Kristi Dale, told DairyReporter.com that it is the cooperative's "responsibility to provide a voice for our members on legislative and regulatory issues that affect their farm operations."
"Our lobbying expenditure in 2012 reflects local and national support to promote and educate about various initiatives of importance to our members, including environmental regulations, immigration, transportation, trade and other issues affecting agriculture," said Dale.
“In addition, a key legislative focus in 2012, and continuing into 2013, is on dairy policy reform. In a vote earlier last year, the Senate gave a nod to the dairy policy reform outlining in the Dairy Security Act. The House Agriculture Committee did the same. During the 113 Congress, we will continue to work with the agricultural leaders in Washington D.C., to push forward the meaningful reform that the Dairy Security Act brings.”
