Steroids controversy
The “Got Milk?” campaign has caused controversy throughout the years.
A 2005 TV advert, played during breaks in the baseball World Series, showed a fake news report on an athlete caught with a performance-enhancing substance: milk.
The television spot promoted milk as a beverage for muscular, healthy sportspeople, but some baseball insiders were incensed at the doping parody.
"There is nothing humorous about steroid abuse,” commented Tim Brosnan, VP, Major League Baseball. "I would think that the California Milk Processor Board and their advertising agency would know better regarding an issue that threatens America's youth."
Advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners defended the video, saying it was “goofy” and “good-natured”.
