US travel company promoting cheese tourism

US travel company Cheese Journeys is catering to cheese lovers by organizing a trip for cheese enthusiasts to southwest England to discover more about the regional cheeses, including the famous Cheddar.

The trip takes place from May 7 to 12, 2018, when travelers will meet cheesemakers and affineurs, including ‘Cheddar families’ Montgomery, Westcombe, and Keen, which have been practising their craft for centuries.

Visitors will not only get to encounter cheese, but also history, while staying at the restored English manor, North Cadbury Court, family home of the makers of Montgomery’s Cheddar.

During the four-day stay, the group will be joined by Cheddar maker Jamie Montgomery, as well as Tom Calver, maker of Westcombe Cheddar, Duckett’s Aged Caerphilly and Somerset Ricotta.

History and cider

In addition to Cheddars, other cheeses such as Stichelton, one of England’s blues, will be on the tasting menu, as well as Hampshire Cheese’s Tunworth, a Camembert-style fromage.

The group will also encounter a variety of local beers and ciders, as well as a trip to the city of Bath.

Anna Juhl, who founded Cheese Journeys in 2013, said, “Cheese Journeys offers travelers a unique back-door food travel experience that no other trip can offer—one which will stay with them for a lifetime.”

Throughout the tour, Cheese Journeys’ London-based chefs, Sylvain Jamois and Milo Waterfield, will share their knowledge of regional foods through a selection of meals and a hands-on cooking class.

Other adventures

Cheese Journeys was founded to take food enthusiasts and professionals on custom tours designed to deepen their knowledge of artisan products, learn about customs and trends, and connect with producers and other food lovers.

Other tours this year include a Philadelphia & Chester County Getaway, in Vermont, US, and a trip to the Alpine regions of France and Switzerland.
