Vanillin and ethyl-vanillin ingredients provider Solvay Aroma Performance will debut new Vanifolia products for ‘off-note masking and enhanced taste’ at SupplySide West November 6-10.

Solvay focuses on helping manufacturers overcome formulation challenges in high-protein applications with a lineup of more than 20 different products.

The Vanifolia brand is a natural vanillin made from non GMO rice. Solvay says that things like natural products with performance nutrition and food safety are trending with consumers and Vanifolia responds to that demand.

With a creamy, vanilla taste, Vanifolia can be used in any protein application like baking, cooking, candy and instant powders.

Consumer trends driving innovation

Solvay is developing more and more protein solutions as consumer interest in high protein dietary products increases, particularly plant-based options. But according to Solvay, “the success of new or reformulated plant-based protein products largely depends on overcoming significant taste and texture challenges.”

Those who frequently consume extra protein in the form of bars and supplements are accustomed to the tell-tale powdery taste. Solvay’s vanillin products are reportedly suitable for masking off-notes from both vegetable and animal proteins.

Edouard Janssen, senior VP and general manager at Solvay Americas, said, “We are seeing a real shift in the types of products mainstream consumers like to buy today. “The popularity of high-protein products continues to rise across all age groups, with the trend making its way into traditional market segments, too. This has created many exciting opportunities for food and beverage manufacturers.”

Solvay will also premiere a new synthetic vanillin replacement at SupplySide West. Rhovanil US NAT is naturally sourced and aiming to fulfill customer demand for more ‘true-to-nature’ and clean label products.

Rhovanil US NAT is FEMA GRAS compliant, non-GMO, Kosher and Halal certified and free from allergens. It’s to be used in applications like chocolate, confectionery, bakery and beverages.
