SIG’s flexible filling line is expanding in Brazil thanks to ‘new beverage occasions’ and business opportunities through product innovation and differentiation.

It recently supplied a filling machine for 500ml, 750ml and 1,000ml combiblocMidi carton packs for Nestlé Brazil’s Molico and Ninho UHT milks.

The UHT milks have been packaged and marketed in combiblocMidi since the start of this year with a SIG CFA 812 filling machine, which has capacity for 12,000 packs per hour at Nestlé’s Carazinho (RS) plant, known as Nestlé Sul.

Nestlé first opened a plant in Araras, Brazil in 1921, to produce Milkmaid condensed milk, later known as Leite Moça.

Today the company has 31 facilities in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Pernambuco, Goiás, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Espírito Santo, operating in 15 market segments, according to Kantar Worldpanel.

Talking about the SIG CFA 812 filling line, Anselmo Nascimento, plant manager, Nestlé Sul, said it’s average is 58-60 hours’ production time, reaching cycle times of 72 hours.

94% Technical Line Efficiency

The SIG CFA 812 filling machine is now running at 94% Technical Line Efficiency and an average loss of less than 0.2%,” he said.

According to SIG, today’s consumer in Brazil is looking for packaging formats and volumes to avoid food waste. Healthy dairy products in pack volumes of less than 1,000ml meet the latest consumer trends for mobility, a healthy lifestyle and individualization.

Many systems would require two filling machines to fill different volumes but the SIG system enables the filling of three different volumes; 500ml, 750ml and 1,000ml on the same machine,” added Antonieta Hilst, regional director, SIG South America.
