Product concepts ranged from a hemp energy drink, to a sweet onion version of a savory cheesecake, a filled banana bread praline, and a vegetable spread with the taste of zucchini, herbs and lemongrass.

Plant-Based nutrition

The company presented a portfolio of plant-based product concepts for the food and beverage industry. The range of innovations is based among other things on integrated natural color solutions and coating systems for vibrant colours and appearances, plant-based ingredients based on cereals, nuts or seeds that are used in plant-based product concepts, as well as integrated taste solutions, such as botanical extracts and new natural fruit flavors.

Currently, Döhler said, products that offer alternative solutions to traditional dairy products are very popular, and the company showcased its solutions, including a selection of diverse plant-based drinks, based on almonds, oats or coconut, which are ideal for adding to coffee, pouring over cereal or drinking on their own.

Plant-based fermented desserts are alternatives to dairy-based yoghurts, which create healthy added-value thanks to their plant-based protein content, making them ideal for snacks or desserts, the company said. One of its concepts was an almond-based, rhubarb and blackcurrant flavor yogurt alternative with a hint of hibiscus, which enables clean label, organic and high protein declarations.

The company also had a variety of plant-based ice creams on display.

Quinta dos Açores

Based on the Atlantic Ocean islands of the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, Quinto dos Açores has four divisions, one of which is dairy products. It produces yogurts, ice cream and cheese.

The company has about 150 Holstein Friesian cows, which produce an average of 5,000 liters of milk daily. All the company’s cows are kept in a free grazing system in the natural pastures of the Azores.
