Ingredia’s product Lactium has been recognized by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as a functional ingredient for health functional foods.

The health claim followed from the results of a clinical study on poor sleepers in South Korea in 2018. The study was published in Nutrient in 2019.

Food supplement manufacturers using Lactium at a dosage of 300 mg/day will be able to claim “may help to improve sleep quality.”

According to a Euromonitor health survey, 61% of Koreans said sleeping disorders impact their current health.

It is the second health claim for Lactium in Korea, following a 2008 claim that the ingredient can release tension from stress.

The 100% natural milk protein hydrolysate contains a bioactive peptide the company says has relaxing properties. It adds that nine clinical trials on more than 500 volunteers have demonstrated Lactium’s efficiency on stress issues and sleep disturbances.
