Chelated Mineral: The Proof Is In the Bonds

Chelated minerals have become popular choice for mineral forms in the nutritional markets and there is much confusion about their chemistry. Many methods to assay metal chelates have been proposed. They all share a fundamental flaw – lack of specificity. To achieve specificity, the method must directly measure the chemical bonds between the metal and the ligand. FT-IR spectroscopy is one such instrument that can see the bonding. This technical note briefly describes single lab validated methods for qualitatively identifying and quantifying mineral amino acid chelates.
