Synergy's close working relationship with its parent company, Irish whey protein manufacturer Carbery, has enabled it to become an "expert” in developing flavor profiles ideal for sports nutrition products, the company's commercial director for Europe told DairyReporter.com.

DairyReporter.com caught up with John Godwin, Synergy’s European commercial director, at FiE 2013 in Frankfurt earlier this week, where the firm was showcasing its recently launched range of vanilla flavours for high-protein products.

“Sports nutrition has been a part of our business for a number of years now, but the acceleration in our growth in that area has been phenomenal. It’s gone from being a very small part of our customer base to occupying in the region of 25% of our customer base,” said Godwin.

“We’ve been the beneficiaries of having a parent company who specializes in protein for nutrition. That’s enabled us to become experts ourselves in providing the flavour profiles to mask some of the notes that you don’t want in a sports nutrition drink.”
