Out with the old, in with the Ornua! Irish Dairy Board set for Irish language name change
The Irish Dairy Board, the Dublin-based dairy behind Kerrygold, is going back to its roots with an Irish language name change.
The Irish Independent reported today that IDB, which began life in 1961 as An Bord Bainne, has begun a process to change its name to Ór Nua, which means New Gold in Irish (Gaeilge).
In a statement sent to DairyReporter.com, IDB confirmed reports a name change has been approved by its board.
An IDB spokesperson noted, however, that it will opt for Ornua, not Ór Nua, if the proposal is approved by shareholders.
“As part of its business transformation strategy to prepare for the opportunities the post quota environment will bring, the Irish Dairy Board has completed a review of its corporate identity and, subject to member shareholder approval, plans to change its company name in coming months,” the company said.
