MicroFoss test gets validation for dairy products

MicroFoss has recently been awarded the AOAC-RI validation for its Coliform dairy product testing kits.

Although the instrument has now been on the market for about two years, meeting quite a large success on the worldwide markets, especially in the dairy and meat segments, the validation can only be passed after such a test has proven its worthiness on the market.

MicroFoss claims that its solution provides one of the most advanced and user-friendly tools for food producers wanting reliable, rapid and meaningful microbiological answers based on microorganisms growth, pH change and dye indication. The available applications are at present ready-to-use vials for enumeration of Total Viable Count, Enterobacteriaceae, Coliform, generic E.coli, and Yeast. The criteria are said to reduce labour inputs, time to answer and overall cost.

The MicroFoss has obtained the AOAC-RI validation for Coliforms in Dairy products from February 2003.

The validation is based on intensive trials covering the Inclusivity, the Exclusivity, Method comparison, Lot-to-lot variation, Shelf life and stability study, Ruggedness and External testing of the MicroFoss Coliform vials.

The certificate states that the performance of the test kit has been reviewed by AOAC Research Institute and was found to perform to the manufacturers specifications.

The MicroFoss Coliform tests were found to be considerably shorter than BAM and showed similar reproducibility and repeatability, obtaining a good correlation between the two methods. The MicroFoss kit even showed the ability to detect counts as low as 0.5 cfu/ml in milk - MicroFloss claims.
