PackExpo opens its doors on 29 October and runs until 2 November. Conference sessions kick off on30 October with a speech by Sonoco Products chairman Harris DeLoach.

He plans to discuss how the packaging industry must transform itself from being viewed simply asa supplier of product necessary for going to market to a partner capable of meeting rapidly changingcustomer demands.

"These include, among many, desire for ongoing productivity improvement, need forcontinuous product and service innovation, desire for faster speed-to-market, a better venue forcommunicating with consumers than provided by typical mass media and a growing appetite by customersfor greater outsourcing of total packaging supply chain requirements," he stated in asynopsis of his presentation. "The impact on packaging companies of these and other changingcustomer requirements will be determined in large part by whether we in the industry view them asopportunities or threats."
