Confectionery equipment supplier Packaging Automation has seen its
latest enhanced filling and sealing machine upping factory output
and improving performance, according to customers.

The Starwheel rotary machine transfers pots via two indexing tables placed at either side of an infeed conveyer which carries the containers into the body of the machine where they are filled and sealed.

The machine has been in use at Welsh dessert company Serious Desserts, operating at 37 ppm and producing 85,000 filled pots each week.

As desserts become more elaborate to meet consumer demand, confectioners have begun to focus on innovation to push sales. After carrying out filling trials with the equipment, Serious Desserts is currently using the Starwheel machinery to create chocolate sauce fillings but hopes to expand into layered creations incorporating cream.

Packaging Automation claim the filling and sealing machine is versatile, lighter and operator-friendly with easily changed components.

Packaging Automation spokesman Mark Leaning said: "We can design the machine in many different formats, each chosen to suit individual requirements. We can supply the Starwheel with fillers and a number of closure options, including film feed, pre-cut diaphragms and clip-on overlids."

The machine can process pots ranging from a diameters of 30mm to 102mm and depths of between 20mm and 110mm.
