A triple seal function and new pull up controls that help maximise production efficiency and security are benefits claimed by the manufacturer of a new closure cap designed for cold and aseptic fill applications.

The 38mm CVT Plasti-Twist closure system from Silgan White Cap Europe/Asia is the latest in the company’s Plastic Twist range. The closure, which has taken two years to develop, has been designed for aseptic fill applications such as juices, health drinks, fresh milk and health drinks. It is suitable for use with PET, PP and HDPE bottle, a company spokesman told

Triple seal function

The linerless cap is compression moulded in polyethylene and features a d-tamper evident band. It has a special triple-seal function that “provides three contact sealing areas for the closure and the container – top, inner and outer – which ensures a hermetic, airtight seal”, said a Silgan statement.

An important part of the development process for the 38CVT included extensive Secured Seal Testing (SST) and Opening Performance Testing (OPT 180) in order to meet “the safety requirements of today’s consumer” said Silgan.

“Pack integrity before opening is assured since the closure is able to hold a pressure well above 2.08 bar until after the tamper band breaks,” added the company.

Pull-up controls

Another feature includes pull-up controls that correspond to controls on PET bottles. This provides “immediate non-destructive visual check of good closure application, which helps to maximise production efficiencies”, said the firm.

The cap is has a matt instead of a gloss finish which gives producers enhanced printing opportunities for “additional branding and personalisation of the closure”, the spokesperson said.

“Our approach to new product development is clear – whatever the market needs, we will provide it,” said Silgan White Cap Europe/Asia’s Manager Mark Hewett. “The 38CVT has been developed to exactly meet customer requirements.”

The German-based company, which has 14 production sites, told that one global juice supplier had already committed to using the 38CVT.
