Bericap is going after the market for light weight packaging with a redesigned 38mm closure that it developed for a new dairy drink from Coca-Cola China.

The new version of the SK 38/16 LC 2-start closure is not as thick as its predecessor, and therefore uses 15 per cent less resin and comes in at a lower overall weight.

Designed to help customers in their efforts to reduce packaging costs and protect the environment, the redesigned cap hit the shelves at the end of last year on new range of pineapple, peach, and mango dairy drinks from Coca-Cola China.

Bericap is now marketing the 38mm cap to other customers. The Germany-based supplier told DairyReporter.com that the target market for the cap is ACF juice, yoghurt drink, and RTD tea in China.

Design changes

As well as reducing the thickness of the SK 38/16 LC 2-start closure, Bericap also made other design changes to the product.

The new closure has a larger bore seal, and features an inter bead thread rather than a continuous one as was the case with the former version. Bericap said the inter-bead design makes the cap more user-friendly for the consumer.

The cap also features a vent lot design to prevent it from blowing off after opening as a result of juice fermentation.

The new cap is suitable for high speed aseptic line handling.
