Suitable for any sweet or savory dish containing Greek yogurt, or indeed the yogurt itself, the new flavors include varieties such as Purple Plum, Cinnamon Bun, Cucumber, Cherry Black Currant and Baklava.
Outlining what Comax sees as the distinguishing features of these new flavors, company spokesperson Cathy Armstrong said: “The flavors that we have used for these products are slightly different from the typical Greek yogurt flavors that are already on the market, perhaps a bit more adventurous and exciting to begin with.
“While we have some dessert-type flavors such as cinnamon bun, which you might expect to find in more typical yogurt products, we also have some unusual flavor ranges that are drawn from Comax’s Healthy and Vibrant line of good-for-you products. These would include flavors like Cherry Black Currant and Purple Plum.”
The ingredients are available globally, although Armstrong said that they were designed mainly with the tastes, expectations and interests of US customers in mind.
Greek yogurt popularity
Comax is keen to take advantage of the growth in popularity of Greek yogurts in the country. Commenting on this trend, Armstrong said: “We are finding that Greek yogurts are attracting a wider range of consumers.
“We believe that this is due to a number of factors: today’s trend toward more exotic food tastes in general, the broader appeal of the products’ thickness and smooth mouthfeel, and the strong media and popular ‘buzz’ surrounding Greek yogurts.”
Greek yogurt can be eaten on its own as a dessert or as an accompaniment. It can also be used to make savory dips or sauces to complement meat or fish products.
