Oystar Erca-Formseal cuts thickness of yoghurt pot walls

Johan Degardin, sales director at Oystar Erca-Formseal said the company has developed a thermoforming machine capable of producing yoghurt pots with walls of 0.7mm, potentially cutting material use by about 20 per cent. Degardin said the machine also supports a wide range of materials including PLA, which as a biodegradable material is gaining popularity as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastics. The sales director added that Oystar would be building on its eco offerings at InterPack next May with the launch of a machine to help manufacturers switch from glass to plastic jars. Meanwhile, at the Emballage trade fair, Oystar was also displaying CrushPak, a new material made by EverEdgeIP that Oystar Erca-Formseal is now offering to its customers. The distinguishing feature of CrushPak for cups is that it can be pressed together like an accordion so the contents can be eaten directly without a spoon and the pack can be disposed off with minimal waste.

At Emballage in Paris last week Oystar Erca-Formseal, an operating company of the Oystar group, presented new technology that permits the production of thinner-walled yoghurt pots.
