Ben & Jerry’s ice cream recalled in US after allergy advice omission

Unilever has begun a voluntary recall of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream in the US, after discovering that allergen advice was missing from the packaging.

According to a recall notice posted on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, the products in question are missing the allergen advisory statement: “Allergy Information: Fudge covered wafer pieces have been manufactured on shared equipment that processes peanuts and tree nuts.”

This statement is usually featured at the end of an ingredients list, but was omitted from the recalled products packaging.

“The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the ingredient label on pint containers did not include this information. The voluntary recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA),” said the recall notice.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in relation to the recall, added the recall notice.
